Overview

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University provides full scholarships to academically talented young people from Sub-Saharan Africa, enabling access to quality graduate education and opportunities for dignified and fulfilling work. The 2026/2027 intake offers 13 scholarships for Master’s programs at Makerere University Main Campus.

How to Apply

Applicants must first apply for admission to Makerere University Main Campus for 2026/2027. Then, complete the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program online application at no cost through the official portal. Note: Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Read all guidelines carefully before submission.

Eligibility

  • Refugee or Internally Displaced Person (IDP)
  • Young persons with disabilities
  • International students
  • Young people living in a refugee host community
  • Young people from underrepresented ethnic groups in Uganda
  • Other Ugandan youth
  • Applied for admission to Makerere University 2026/2027
  • Completed undergraduate education in an African country
  • Experiencing financial constraints
  • Not holding any other scholarship
  • Not pursuing or completed a Master’s degree
  • Demonstrated leadership/community service
  • Age ≤35 (≤40 for refugees
  • IDPs
  • or young persons with disabilities)
  • Valid documentation for refugees
  • Applied for priority degree programmes
